Currently, the only sound I'm getting is beeps through the tower
speaker. In Device Manager, there are not resource conflicts and appears to
be installed properly until I go to the audio driver's Properties Tab,
expand Audio Devices and view the Properties of the Audio Device where it
says, "Driver is enabled but has not been started."
I did recently get into disabling various unnecessary Services through
"services.msc", however, I did quite a bit of research and am fairly
confident that I made the right decisions. I found
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm an excellent resource for
this task Knowing this, I did go back and set all Services to their
defaults, but the sound problem remained.
I completely uninstalled drivers and removed the hardware for my
Hercules Game Theater XP soundcard and then enabled my onboard sound. At no
time were there ever two sound drivers installed and/or running at once. The
problem remains.
Any idea what's going on here and/or how to fix this problem?
Thank you for your time and knowledge!
