Dell Inspiron 8500 - XP Home Edition.

I am unclear what I have done, but when I click to My
Pics, Docs, Music, Computer, I do not get the expected
layout.

The Address bar sits as a sort of grayed out rectangle
in the standard buttons toolbar, and the three left hand
panes - system tools, Other Places, Details [My Computer]
or again, Picture Tasks, File and Folder Tasks and Other
places, [My Pictures] does not show.

I particularly need these in My Pictures, since next
Saturday I start a 3-month trip to the Rockies of Canada
and USA, and I shall be using this folder to download
digital Images, View them as slideshow, [helps me to
decide which we keep etc.] It was only when I looked for
the slideshow option that I realized the left pane was
not visible.

Please, PLEASE! Get back to me a.s.a.p.

And Thank You

In Folder Options> General, check that the option to show the common
tasks pane is selected.

In any folder window: When View> Explorer Bar> Folders is not selected
you will see the common tasks on the left. When it is selected, you'll
get the folder tree in that column. If you do not have a Folders button
on the standard toolbar, you can add one. Clicking on it makes it very
simple to toggle between common tasks and the folder tree.

The common tasks list can change depending on the customization applied
to a folder. You can customize a folder using one of the several picture
templates. The folder will then sport the common tasks list that are
useful when working with image files. You can add, change or remove
customization to a folder by using the options found its properties
sheets.
