I have xp sp2 and have installed a logitec quickcam zoom. when I try to have
a video with someone, it tells me I have no "buddies" to contact. I inserted
the e-mail of the person I want to converse with and sent an invite to sign
up for a .net passport. Do all my contact buddies have to have a .net
passport and use windows messenger IM in order for us to hook up? In other
words, BOTH parties have to be signed onto windows messenger in order for the
contact to appear on the list as on line? Can you use two separate IM
programs-like me on windows messenger and the other party on MSN messenger?
thank you for any help--just trying to see grandchildren and I don't have
MSN. I use NetZero for ISP but our children all have DSL lines.

Your ISP and their ISP don't have to be in sync. However, in most cases, you
must both be using the same software to IM with each other. If you can, get
a high speed line like DSL or cable. It will make your IM experience much
more enjoyable!

thank you for your help, so I guess we all have to get the .net passport and
use windows messenger--can do. How do I fing the version of windows
messenger and direct x I have to know if I need to download a better version?

Start > Run > dxdiag
That will tell you what version of DirectX you have. v9.0C is the latest
version.

For most programs (messenger) there is usually an "About" option in the last
menu option at the top. This will tell you the version you are running. The
latest version of MSN messenger is 6.2
