Start/Run and type in
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%
\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Hit ok and it should do it.

The MSN Messenger program (and the inbuilt Windows Messenger Instant
messaging) are not related *at all* to the Messenger service

If you mean *MSN* messenger, which you downloaded, then there should be
an Uninstall for it in Add/Remove Programs.

If you mean the very similar, but different, Windows Messenger that
comes with the system, then in its own Tools - Options uncheck the 'load
when windows starts', and in outlook express
1: Tools - Options uncheck 'Logon to Messenger'
2. IN View - Layout uncheck Contacts
