I use Windows Messenger v5 for Chat and File Transfer.

Would I gain anything by switching to MSN Messenger?

Greetings Michael,

MSN Messenger has several tweaks to both chatting and file transfer. The file transfer
capabilities in MSN Messenger (6) include allowing you to transfer multiple files at once,
the ability to see a thumbnail of a picture before you actually retrieve it, and the ability
to send files directly through the Messenger server (if a direct connection can't be
established). For "chat" assuming you mean text-based chat, the only main change would be
the addition of animated, new and custom emoticons which you can send (not sure if you're
interested in those). If you meant voice-based chat, there's really nothing new. You can
see some demos of these new features here:

.
One thing to keep in mind is if you're running XP & you
upgrade to MSN6, you could lose audio capability. Mine
worked fine using 4.7 and I upgraded & nothing works now.
I can't even go back. I will have to reformat my HD.
Whatever MSN6 placed in my registry or somewhere on my HD
has totally incapacitated my PC from sending Audio thru
MEssenger.
