Hi

I have MSN Messenger 6.2 and XP pro. When I log onto
outlook Express, windows messenger always starts up. I
have told it not to in the options of outlook express,
and also removed it from the add/remove programs window.
However it still opens up, when I log onto outlook
express, and keeps coming up with the box, that I need to
update to messenger 4.X. How can I stop this. Can I
totally remove it, and still use remote assisstance, and
other things in MSN messenger 6.2??

Any ideas????

Greetings Chris,

To stop this "auto start" behavior in Outlook Express, close Outlook Express then download
and run the following .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg

After this, Windows Messenger (4.x) will no longer load and therefore shouldn't display this
message. However, Windows Messenger *is* required for Remote Assistance, Whiteboard and
Application Sharing within MSN Messenger 6.2 (there is no way around that).

Many Thanks Johnathan,

I presume this reg fix, will not therefore diasble
functionality, just stop it loading up, and I can still
use remote assistance etc?

Hi Chris,

Nope, you won't lose anything except the ability to see the status of your Messenger contacts
in the "Contacts" pane in Outlook Express.
