I use win xp home edition and just upgraded from Windows Messenger 4.7 to
5.0. I wished I hadn't upgraded it.

1) I guess there is no way to uninstall 5.0 and re-install v4.7. I cannot
find neither Messenger in my Control Panel's "add/delete programs".

2) In my current V5.0 setup, at time of my computer start up, I get
Messenger's error message saying "read error...newdot~2.dll". Can someone
tell me how to fix this?

Greetings Sachi,

1) There sure is, just install 4.7 again from the following location (you'll be prompted to
just remove 5):
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp

2) Going back to 4.7 should resolve this.

I downloaded and installed Windows Messenger 4.7 but I am unable to log in.
I get error message saying my "either wrong password or wrong sign in name".

Any solution?

To Jonathan Kay,

Although your response to my question did not solve my problem, I was able
to use your response to others and was able to solve my problem, thank you
very much. I successfully was able to unistall Windows Messenger V5.0 and
then re-install Windows Messenger V4.7. Now my Messenger contact lists
appear in my Outlook Express.

The solution was to use your suggested following command in Run :
Here's the "code": Click the start button, then click
Run and type in (copy-paste if you
like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed
