Hello Everyone,

I recently found a problem to sign myself into .NET service. My Windows-XP
Embedded comes with Windows Messenger 4.7, and when I tried to sign in, it
gave me the following error message.

"Signing in to .NET Messenger Service failed because the service is not
compatible with this version of the program."

The same platform works fine months ago. But now, it kicked me out.

Does anyone know what happened?

And how can switch it back to working?

Thanks in advance.

Timu,

Are you working with XPe RTM (not SP1, not SP2)?

What build number of your Messenger v4.7? If you can check the build number in the Messenger's About dialog, something like
(4.7.2005).

IIRC, as of October 15th of 2003, clients prior to Windows Messenger 4.7.2005 and MSN Messenger 5 were no longer
allowed on the .NET Messenger network. If you use Windows Messenger prior 4.7.2005 you will not be able to login and will see the
error message you described earlier.

Does anybody know how to upgrade Windows Messenger so that I can log myslef
onto .NET service?

Thanks in advance.

Timu,

You can install the latest XP WIndows Messenger if your run time has got all the dependencies for launching the installer.
If not, you would need to deploy the necessary files and registry entries manually.
