Hi, can anyone help. I am just an ordinary pc user. I am trying to view DVDs
in windows media player. What do I need to download prior to purchasing a DVD
decoder. I have already Bought 2 and been refunded. They just don't seem to
download. I must be missing something.

You need a DVD-ROM player and a good DVD decoder.
Try the following if indeed you have a DVD player:

NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder Platinum 30 day Trial

I don't know why WMP would not just work "out of the box". Don't really use
it much myself.
Here's an alternative idea/player. It's totally free. No adware, scumware.
The best player I've used is the one included with Nero burning software,
but VLC is very good for free. Just a thought.

If by the use of the term "DVD decoder" you mean software that will enable
you to view a DVD, then Windows Media Player is such software. Provided you
have a DVD ROM or RW drive, then you should have no problems. If you have
been having such a problem, then try:
Start/My Computer/Right-click DVD-RW drive (or
equivalent)/Properties/AutoPlay. Then select "DVD movie" and select "Play
using Windows Media Player". Then apply. Then insert a DVD and it should wake
up WMP to play your movie. If this is what you need and it works for you,
please let me know.

If you have the drive and it doesn't work, then you probably have a hardware
problem.

Hi, Thank you for all the info. When I insert DVD into drive I choose to open
it in Windoes media player. I then get on screen no DVD decoder. Now when I
try to install decoder I get to run the insallation but when I click run the
2nd time nothing happens. I just dont understand .

Hi, Yes i've know this site. I have paid for 2 of these downloads without
success. I just dont know whats wrong.

I'm sorry I can be of no further help. My edition of Windows Media Player
(and of Real Player) seem to work on their own.

Dennis,
I understand you would like to play your DVDs with WMP.
But, if you can't and are already spending your money with decoders, why you
don't download VLC and stop your troubles ? VLC is free, maybe not the best
but it is very good and has no problems reading most kind of (my) DVDs. BTW,
which is the extension of the files in one of your DVDs that WMP can't play
?
Regards.

Hi Greenfruit,
I have had a look at VLC. and see they require a fee the same as the others.
I have no problem purchasing a player or decoder all I expect after purchase
is that I can download it with no problems and then be able to use it. In the
last week I have tried so many times i've lost count.

Greenfruit, the problem i'm having is that when I download the decoder I get
as far as RUN press ok and then nothing happens from that point.
