windows media player

i just downloaded the windows media player 9.0 and when i
tried to open it i got the message "the file wmplayer.exe.
has a version number 9.0.0.2980 where 9.0.0.2926 was the
expected version" then "windows media player is not
installed properly and must be reinstalled" I did
reinstall 2 times but i was still not able to open the
player. what am i doing wrong?

Both of those version numbers were the beta releases. The final release version is 9.0.0.3008.
What version were you running before you tried the install?

You may want to post also in the;
microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player
