i have window vista home basic. and twice ive tried to play dvds, the first
time it played about 25 mins and then media player shut down...i thought

bought a dvd and put it in and it did the same thing. played about 25 mins
then shut down. does anyone know what the problem is and maybe how to fix
it??

Microsoft's Media Player for years has basically been badly flawed in
my opinion. You'll find countless thousands of complaints from all
levels of users all up and down the web, in endless forums and
newsgroups regarding all the dumb things Media Player constanty does
and all the things it should do that sadly it doesn't do with any
realibilty. It is shameful that Microsoft ignores these long running
issues and never truly fixes Media Player, rather then simply
releasing a newer version with more buggy features.
My opinion, Media Player attempts to do TOO MUCH and accordingly fails
in providing the basic functions you except a MEDIA PLAYER to do, ie
play media without falsely saying can't find codec, or simply not
palyer either video or audio portion or always skipping, sputtering or
stalling or any of the other totally stupid things Media Player does
every day that other players do not playing the same file.
You can either put up with the constant aggrevation or simply install
a few other players that work way better.
Just a few documented issues can be found here: There are dozens more.
