Windows Media Player 10 MP3 playback problems

Has anyone experienced playback problems with their MP3s on WMP 10? When I
play songs out of my library, the MP3s will lock up and stop playing, my cpu
usage shoots up to 100 percent and I have to wait several seconds, at
minimum, for things to get back to normal. I have a sony vaio laptop, P4, 2.4
ghz with 512 mb ram. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you in advance.

What do you have running in the background ?

This is happening whether or not any other programs are running. My computer
is spyware/malware free and it has no viruses. Thanks.
