After just upgrading to XP there are a couple of simple things I seem to be
struggling with. Namely how to get a shortcut to dial up my internet
connection onto the quick launch toolbar. Also even though I am using only
one main user I seem to have two different My Documents.

The one from the desktop has all my documents in but when I go to it through
C: on the left side from a menu it goes to another one which is completely
empty.

I understand this is probably due to XP having different folders for
different users and one for all but I'm not entirely sure how it works and
which is the best way to use it as I only tend to have one user.

1 - right click on the connection and choose create shortcut. XP will tell
you it can't make it there and place it on the desktop. Then drag it to the
quick loaunch bar.
2 - sounds like it's a left over my documents folder from the previous
version of windows that you upgraded from. XP's my documents folder is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\your user name here\My Documents
But, you will also see a mirror of this my documents folder(to make it
easier to get to) called my documents and is a subfolder of the desktop.
They are the same folder the one under docs and settings it the real one,
the other is the quick access mirror of the real one.
