I have been trying to download mail on a new computer using Visat mail, but
get the following message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'mail.gorge.net (1)', Server: 'mail.gorge.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

The mail server works fine on the old computer. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

The (1) after the account name suggests you may have set up duplicate
accounts that use that server. If so, delete all but one of them.

You may need to call gorge.net and get their instructions for setting up
to use their email servers. If they haven't written instructions for
Windows Mail yet, their instructions for Outlook Express should
also work under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP
protocol. They don't seem to have put these instructions on their
web site.

Also, what if any antivirus and antispyware programs do you have?
Some of them cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although
seldom immediately.

If you have the Google Toolbar program installed, uninstall it.
It causes problems in Windows Mail.

Do other internet connections, such as those through Internet
Explorer, work correctly?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
