i dont use windows mail, but it pops up on its own constantly, is there a
way to disable it.

You can disable most of what it does by clicking on Tools, then Accounts.
For each account, click on the account, then Remove, then any approvals
needed. After the last account is removed, click on Close.

If you install some other email program, this usually takes over as the
program that starts when some program decides to use mail.
 
Tell us which email service or method you use, and we may be able
to tell you how to set that as the default.
 
If you want to be treated as shouting, and therefore receive fewer answers,
post in
ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.

Windows Mail is a part of Vista, and very hard to remove without removing
the rest
of Vista. You can, however, remove all of the accounts under it to keep it
from doing
much if you start it. You can also delete the shortcuts that offer easy
ways to start it.
 
Windows Mail can not be uninstalled.

I'm afraid I don't know of a way to have your AOL mail program
respond to MailTo links. You will have to ask AOL.
