If you click Apply in the same session after you put a checkmark in the
box before remember password, a quirk in Windows Mail often makes
it forget the password. To fix this, start Windows Mail, then click on
Tools, then Accounts, then your newsgroups account, then Properties,
then Server. If there is still a check mark before Remember password,
leave it alone so you can safely click Apply below. Click at the end of
the dots for the password, then backspace over them, then type the
correct password, then click Apply. Click on OK, then Close.

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not very
compatible with Windows Mail.

i'm having an almost identical situation with my POP3 account in Windows
Mail except that it doesn't even have the dots in the password field to
backspace over. And i've tried your recommendation as well as other
combinations and its not working for me. In fact some of the time i
cannot even click in the password box on the server tab unless i click
on the check box for remember password.

Then you may have to click on the Remember password box, then
close down Windows Mail entirely, then try the recommendation
if it remembers this checkmark.
