Add me to the list of annoyed Vista users..I have been able to turn off
the user account control for the browser, and its corresponding
security warning nag on the toolbar, and set the bootup login password
automatically, but to keep getting the windows mail security asking me
to log in every single time I check my mail is too much. I am running
Norton 2008 AV. If the nag cannot be turned off, can anyone recommend a
replacement pop3 mail program ?
Most versions of the Norton antivirus program are known to cause
various problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.
Windows Mail has a quirk that often makes it forget the password
if you click Apply in the same session that you tell it to start
remembering the password - but requires you to click Apply
in the same session in which you tell it the password to remember.
To handle this, click on Tools, then Accounts, then the email
account for which it won't remember the password, then Properties,
then Servers. If there is no checkmark in the box before
Remember password, click on this box, then OK, then Close,
then start over. If there is a checkmark in the box, leave it alone
so you can do the following: If there is any problem with the
username, click at the end of the problem, backspace over it,
then type the correction. Assume that there's a problem with
the password, so click at the end of the dots for the password,
backspace over them, then type the correct password. Click on
Apply, then OK, then Close.
