Windows mail problems

I have very weird problems on Windows mail. I'll try and be as thorough as I
can about it.

This computer came with Vista, I didn't upgrade from another OS.
It came with 2 GB of Ram and I updated it to 4 GB - so resources are fine
I have tried to shut the Antivirus and Firewalls down to correct the problem
I have all of my settings on send and receiving mail all correct.
I have deactivated all spam filters for a time

Ok, now, here we go:

When I try and send mail to some places, sometimes the receiver gets it and
sometimes not, I have checked this and it can be the same person that will
sometimes get it and sometimes not. No errors on send or anything, they just
don't get it. They will get one email from me and not the next..... it's
sporatic.

When I click on reply or compose an email, the email program, Windows Mail,
will lag sometimes up to a full minute before it releases where I can type my
message in the window..... almost like it is working overtime to just open it
up where I can type, but I check my pc usage on resources and don't see
anything that could or would cause this.

It is a brand new computer with an upgrade to 4GB of Ram, so I know it has
all the resources it needs. And the freaky thing is, I don't ever know if the
recipient is getting my mails or not unless it is someone I know and can ask
personally if they got it, via phone or chat method....... I just can't tell
who gets my mail and who does not or when it happens unless, like I said, I
know them personally and can ask them outside of email.

Do any of you know how to fix this or have had this problem?

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., Vista SP1) when posting to
this newsgroup.

Do copies of the messages end up in Sent Items folder?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled when you bought the
computer?

I'm sorry... my OS version is Vista SP1.

And is Windows Live Mail an upgrade of Windows Mail that came with Vista or
a completely different program? And if so, is it easy to import settings into
it or is that even necessary. I guess if it is an update, it shouldn't need
to do any importing, right?

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a nutcase, I just hate so much dealing
with email programs and I am always afraid of screwing them up, I work online
so my livlihood depends on email.

Thanks,
Tam

Although it is a different program, Windows Live Mail (WLM) was designed
to automatically import all your Windows Mail accounts, settings and emails.
Trying out WLM does not commit you to it. If it turns out you don't like it,
merely uninstall, and Windows Mail is back like before.
You can even run both programs simultaneously, as I do.

Windows Live Mail is considered a replacement for Windows Mail.

Back to your original problem, if a copy of your message is found in your
Sent Items folder, the problem lies somewhere outside of Windows Mail (or
any other Mail Client you use).

Heh. That will never happen, so there is no point in wasting
time even thinking about it.

Regardless of which mail program you use, if you value your messages, you
need to backup frequently. Hard drives fail and when that happens, all the
data is gone.

Nope, it sure won't. Windows Mail has been dropped in Windows 7.
