When I go on line and try to reply to an e-mail I get a message from
Windows saying that there is another Windows Mail program open and I can not
reply on line. I have to copy the e-mail address and open up my gmail account
and paste the address box. Now I have noticed when I start up my laptop that
there is something opening up but it is never on the screen long evough for
me to see what it is. So I'm thinking that there is a program running in the
background that is causing my problem. My question ishow can I find out if
there is a program running in the background and can I get rid of it? If so
how would I do that?

Do you have Windows Mail closed when this happens? If so,
open Task Manager (right-click on the taskbar to select it). Click the
Processes tab, then "Show processes from all users." Sort by Image Name.
Do you see WinMail.exe or wlmail.exe?
If so, you need to figure out what started it, or when was the last time you
used that program.
Also, which antivirus are you running?

I never used Windows Mail always my gmail. I opened windows just now but
could not find the Processes Tab. I had McAfee but just deleted it this
morning and I have used AVG for several months now. I just tried again to
respond and now get error message that STMP is not right.

You may need to remove your account, close and reopen WinMail, and then add
it back again, as some AV programs will screw up the account settings.
