When I launch windows mail, I can see new emails coming in, then they
disappear. Any ideas how to get around it?

Click on the Inbox, then View, then Current View, then Show All
Messages. Do the same in Deleted Items and Junk E-mail. Does
this make the mail appear in any of these folders?

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

What happens when you send mail to yourself?

Under 'View|Current View' you should have "Show All Messages" selected. If
you have "Hide Read Messages" or "Hide Read or Ignored Messages" selected,
messages will appear in your inbox, then disappear as soon as they're marked
"Read", either by reading them or viewing them in the Preview pane.
Selecting "Show All Messages" will make them re-appear.

Did you look in your Junk E-mail folder?

I had the same problem...
I have kaspersky internet security suite (antivirus/firewall/antispam) and
I found out that recieved mails WITHOUT a titel in the mails,
the security suite read the mails as spam and deleted it right away..
Maybe your antivirus do the same....Tell it to allow mails without
header/titel
(titel is like this mail >>windows mail disappears...<<)

regards Mike

Thanks for the reply:
All mailboxes are (and have been) set to view all messages.
I am running McAfee antivirus. Do you know if McAfee causes this?
I'll receive the message from myself if I send one. It's only happening to
some of my mail.

Show all messages had already been set...thanks

Yes, I checked that already. Fortunately I have my Windows mail set to save
the emails on the server.

Thanks Mike, All the emmails have titles. I see them come in, and then
disappear. They're not in any folders that I have. I'm using McAfee.

McAfee is one of the programs for which most versions cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.
To stop it from causing new problems, you have to uninstall it,
not just disable it. You then often need to run this addition to
the uninstall program:

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

You may then want to install a replacement antivirus program.
I suggest either avast! or AVG for home use, either one with
a custom install that tells it to leave out the part that scans
email, or NOD32 for business use:

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff

http://www.eset.com/

You might also click on Tools, then Message Rules, then Mail. Go down
the list, clicking on each rule, until you find one that calls for deleting
mail
either from an address you want mail from, or from just that part of the
address after @. If you find such a rule, click on Remove, then any
approvals needed, then continue down the rest of the list. After the last
rule, click on OK.

Also click on Tools, then Junk E-mail options. If there is a check mark in
the box before Permanently delete suspected junk e-mail instead of
moving it to the Junk E-mail folder, click on this box and then Apply.
Click on Safe Senders. Add the addresses you are having trouble
getting email from, or just the part after @ if you want mail from any
user at that site. Click on Apply if you added any. Click on Blocked
Senders. If any address you want email from appears on the list,
or just the part of the address after @, click on that address, then
Remove, then any approvals needed. Click on Apply if you made
any changes. Click on International, then Blocked Top-Level Domain
List. Click on Clear All, then go down the list and click on the block
before any country where you want to block all email from that country.
Click on OK, then Blocked Encoding List. Click on Clear All, then go
down the list and click on the block before any languages you want to
block. At the end of the list, click on OK, then Phishing. If you don't
have a check mark in the box before Move phishing E-mail to the
Junk Mail folder, click on this box and then Apply. Click on OK.

1. Cneck your mail rules (Tools | Message Rules).

2. Check your Block Senders List (Tools | Junk E-mail Options).

Sounds like interference from a non-compatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton
security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, NOT just disabled.
I suggest that you do a temporary uninstall of your antivirus.
You can always reinstall it if there is no improvement.

If there is improvement, download and install a more
compatible antivirus like:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Clicking on view and show all revealed all of my email again. I had no idea it had been changed. Did I do it or is it a glitch in the program.

I feel so duh about this...

Everytime I clicked on another email folder, bamm! msg's would disappear.
