I try to close windows mail and Vista to restart it. How can I change this?
Your question isn't clear. Try again and include more detail.
If you get any error messages, right click on them and copy the entire
error messages to your next message.
Also tell us what if any antivirus programs you have, since interference
from antivirus programs is one of the more common causes of problems
in Windows Mail.
Also, I have set Mail to "empty deleted items on close" - this is not
working - is it linked to my 1st question?
Click on Deleted Items, then Edit, then Empty 'Deleted Items' Folder.
If this produces any error messages instead of emptying the folder,
download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer
to install.
