Hello:

I have read that the solution to the error message that says that Windows
Mail "can no longer support HTTP" is by installing Windows Live.

I did install Windows Live, however, and the error still appears. What else
has to be done?

Who provides the email account you are trying to access?
Windows Live Mail can only access MSFT (Hotmail/MSN/Live) http accounts (in
addition to POP3 and IMAP).

Are you sure you're using Windows Live Mail?
If so,
Do you wish to access your Hotmail account like you may have in OE (via
http)?
Click on Tools - Accounts - Add - E-mail account - Next
enter your Hotmail address & password - Next
that's it...

Do you wish to access your Hotmail account via POP3, where email is
downloaded?

BTW, this group is for Windows Mail.
The Windows Live Mail group is

Well, we used to be able to send pictures to my Hotmail account from our XP
laptop. Then, we got a Vista laptop and it gives this error message.

I don't know what I want to do with this e-mail stuff other than be able to
send pictures to Hotmail without getting this stupid error message that we
are now getting since we "upgraded" to Vista.

Microsoft has enabled POP access for free Hotmail/Live accounts. Follow the
settings given here:
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!CC9301187A51FE33!49799.entry

NB: Use port 587 rather than port 25 for the Outgoing (SMTP) server.

Windows Mail's account setup wizard is hard-coded to reject Hotmail and MSN
addresses. So, when you enter your Hotmail/MSN email address initially, use
a fake one, such as (e-mail address removed). After the account setup is
complete, go back and correct your email address.

This doesn't really help. Let me see if I can explain better.

My wife owns this new Vista laptop, after we gave her XP laptop to her
sister in Michigan a few weeks back. She used to be able to send pictures to
my Hotmail account in Windows Photo Gallery.

Now, she can't do that because of her stupid error message.

So, now, I have to put my Hotmail address on her laptop. That makes no
sense. I mean, I don't mind her seeing my e-mail of course. But, it's her
laptop--not mine. Why shold my account be on someone else's laptop. I mean,
if she sent pictures to others besides me who have Hotmail accounts, do we
have to set up their e-mail accounts on her laptop also?

Can't wait 'til Windows 7 comes out and we can get out of this stupid Vista
world.

Is Windows Live Mail (which is not the same thing as Windows Live Hotmail)
also installed on her laptop? If it was and it (not Windows Mail) was
configured as the default Mail Client, Windows Live Photogallery and Windows
Live Mail should be able to work together.

Do you know that Win7 will not include *any* default Mail Client (e.g.,
Windows Mail, let alone Windows Live Mail)?

PS: Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Hotmail..., yes, the names
are very confusing. What were they thinking? Were they thinking at all?

This doesn't really help. Let me see if I can explain better.

Hi PA Bear,

I tried your original instructions, again, and they worked perfectly! Thank
you!

I just don't like that Vista forces the use of my e-mail account or any
other e-mail account on my wife's laptop other than hers. That's very silly
(Yes, "silly" is the technical term for it).

Your wife only needs to use her email account on her computer. There's no
need for her to use yours, if she has a valid email account. Where's you
get that idea?

Huh? Why is your email account even configured in Windows Mail on her
machine? If she has a (e-mail address removed) account (or obtains one), she'd be
able to use her own account in Windows Mail.
