Is there an option somewhere to not always have Windows Mail running? It
takes up memory and starts every time I boot up my computer without my
permission.

By default Windows Mail doesn't run at startup.
You must have done something to cause that to happen.
Did you look at the Startup tab of msconfig.exe for likely culprits?

Go to Start | Search and type msconfig. Then when that comes up, look at
the startup programs. One of them is initiating WinMail and you should
disable it. You can try disabling all and rebooting and then verifying
WinMail doesn't start, and then selectively enable the ones you think you
need to figure out which is the culprit.

will start no matter what you do.
There are two people on this tread with the same problem. How do you stop
winmail from starting???????

Once you have exhausted the easy places to look (Startup folder, Startup
tab of msconfig), then the hunt becomes more difficult. It requires a
fairly savvy person to check the task scheduler and the registry for other
places where programs can be started.
