I cannot get Windows Mail to stay as default mail program although I have
checked it to be in the Tools Options. Any ideas what causes this and the
fix?

Something that you might try - involves customizing the Start menu.
Right-click the taskbar, select Properties, then click the Start Menu tab,
then click Customize. At the bottom, check the E-mail link check box, then
choose Windows Mail from the drop-down list and click OK. Makes no sense to
me but it worked for me.

Thanks, Joanee. I tried your steps. The E-Mail link was already checked
but no program was shown. The drop down window is empty and shows no
selections. I do not know why. My computer is new and came loaded with
Vista so I would have thought programs were identified by Vista. I can use
the Windows Mail, have set up accounts and folders, imported addresses so I
know it is working. But some how Vista does not seem to remember that all
happened. Anyone have a fix idea?

Go to the Start menu, Default Programs, then
click the first item: "Set your default programs."
After a few seconds a list of programs comes up.
Click on Windows Mail. To the right you should then see
"This program has all its defaults."
If it has less than ALL of its defaults, fix it by clicking on
"Set this program as default."

When I get to the "Set your default programs" page, I only have Windows Mail
(News) as an option to click. I clicked to make sure it has all defaults.
It did not seem to effect the problem with the Windows Mail being the
default for mail. Is there a way I can add Windows Mail for mail to the
program list on this window?

Sorry, I have no idea why Windows Mail is not showing up
on the list of default programs for you.

I am running Vista Business and have the same problem. If I want to send
pictures I have to use my Laptop using XP and Outlook express.
I suspect that this is a Registry problem but do not want to go there unless
I have to!
Any suggestions would be great.

Brilliant. Now why did I not think of that!!!
Found the answer. It was a registry problem. Downloaded the fix from Ramesh,
MS-MVP.
Works a treat now.
