It's hard to disable without disabling your ability to connect at all.
After you
fail to connect, it usually asks for the password the next time even if you
told it to remember the password before.

First, check what username and password works the best. Try entering
your username with no CAPITAL LETTERS, and with both followed and
not followed by the part of your email address starting with @. When
entering your password, remember to use CAPITAL and lowercase
letters in the right places. Some email servers are picky about these.

After you find what works the best, click on Tools, then Accounts, then
your email account, then Properties, then Servers. Click at the end of
your username, backspace over it, then enter the username as it worked
the best. Do the same to your password, with any approvals needed.
If there is no check mark in the box before Remember password,
click on this box. Do not click on Apply, since a quirk makes this
erase the password. Click on OK, then Close.

Sometimes your antivirus program can corrupt the password function.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton
security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Which "anti-virus steps" have you done?
Did you uninstall your antivirus, and afterwards you deleted that
email account, rebooted and recreated the account?
