Good Morning, I have a new computer with Vista.... I am not very techie!! I
have always used Outlook Express, this has Windows Mail. On the old email it
had an automatic fill for the "to", the new email only saves up to 30 email
addresses (I learned all of this from YOU helpful people on this site!!) I
do a lot of emailing and liked the old program better. Some people have
posted to get Windows Live Mail, however I do see a lot of complaints with
this program. I do not use news groups or any features other than email. I
don't want to mess up my computer by installing WLM..... is it worth it just
to have the automatic fill. I would appreciate some feedback from you techie
folks. Thank you and hope you are having a great day!!

Thank you for the response. I did import my address book. Some email
addresses do fill in as on my old computer and others don't. On this site I
read where it only saves the last 30, so addresses that are seldom used do
not fill in automatically. It was suggested to use the new LIVE version. I
dread putting anything new on my computer, I am having enough problems
adjusting to Vista.

The auto-complete feature in Windows Mail cannot be fixed to work better.
It is irretrievably broken.
The only fix is to upgrade to WLM. There is no drawback to trying WLM.
If it turns out you don't like it, merely uninstall, and WM is back as your
default email program.
As they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Help I uninstalled WLM as you suggested and now I can not find WM. How do I
get it back? And have I lost all of my e-mails and e-mail contacts? Linda

In Windows Explorer go to C:\Program Files\Windows Mail.
Right drag WinMail.exe to wherever you want the shortcut, release the right
button and lift click on Create Shortcut.

Thank you. Your the best! When I called Toshiba I was told I would have to
reinstall the whole system. Nice to know I was able to reach someone who
knew what he was doing.

New Toshiba computers oftem come with a program called SMS Desktop
already installed, even though this program causes problems in Windows
Mail. Check your list of installed programs, and if this one is there,
uninstall
it.

I have loaded them in my contacts. My problem is only the last 30 show up on
autofill. I have to open the contacts box and scroll through or fill in the
name at the top and this loads so slowly, I click and then erase the name in
the contact box and type in another one..... I just liked the OLD Outlook
that was so fast and easy. Thank you all who answered this email I
appreciate your help. Stephanie

I don't know how you got that to work, but when I begin typing
the last name of a contact in the To line, it never auto-completes
unless it is one of my 29 most recent recipients.
I have SP1, and have never moved the Contacts folder.

That explains it. Hitting Tab after typing a few characters is a
known workaround, and for many of us, it worked prior to SP1 also.
To me, it is one of several little things that just don't work right in
WM, which is why I've switched to WLM for email.

Hi Gary,

Didn't know it was considered a workaround. Guess it depends on your order
of doing things. I just type in the names and when I hit send or go to
compose the email, everything is good. Take Care and thanks for the info.

Gary H.

Thank you so much!! I just tested it a few times. Typed in Ben and when I
hit send up popped a window with the Ben first names and also all the
surnames starting with Ben like Benson, Benton, etc. Great!!!! Stephanie

You're welcome.
