I just purchased this laptop and created my email account. I verified with
my web hoster that the email servers are pop3 and the server info is right
(they can download into outlook express). the problem is that I can send
emails from my computer using windows live mailer but I cannot receive them
on my laptop. when I use the online web reader (horde) I can see new
messages in my box. There are no errors shown when logging in, just the
emails are not being grabbed from the server, what gives? I have norton's
installed, but this doesn this when it is disabled too. Help!

pop3 is not a valid server name. What happens if you use it as one
depends on what your software and your internet provider does
with invalid server names. It can be the protocol, though.

Norton must be uninstalled, not just disabled, to stop it from
adding new problems to Windows Mail. I don't know if this also
applies to Windows Live Mail, though. You might find out faster
if you ask in the following newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

I apologize if my note was not clear. POP3 is not my server name. I meant
to say that my incoming server and outgoing server are named correctly and
that it is a POP3 account.

I uninstalled Nortons to no effect. It says it is connecting, searching for
new emails but is not finding them when in fact there are new messages.

why would it not find them?

After uninstalling Norton, be sure to delete that mail account, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

If it connects with the server and comes back with the status report
"No new messages", then I can think of only two reasons.

1. The account is misconfigured on the server. Ask tech support to
reset it.
2. (Not likely): You are checking a different POP account than the
one you view via webmail.

usually incoming mail if pop3 anbd outgoing is smtp, such as mail.server.com
and smtp.server.com
