I just performed the latest security update from the
Microsoft Windows update page and now my Administrator
Permissions cannot be retrived. Before the update I had a
blank user name and password suppressed through a utitily
tool so when windows started up I didn't have to type
anything(I know...It's not wise) So now I get the
error "blank passwords/usernames are not allowed" and only
allows me to log on as guest....

Help!! please- I can't even do system restore to revert
back to an earlier point before that darn update.
Thanks,

Hi

Try booting into Safe Mode and uninstalling the Update. Which particular Update was it?

Thanks Will I'll try that...as far as the updates I am not

just installed this morning if that helps...

Hi

Try uninstalling them in reverse order to see which is causing the trouble. On the Windows Update page have a look at 'Installation History' to see which order there were installed in.

WOW It worked! Thank you so much Will! The updates were
XP KB835732
XP KB828741
XP KB837001
WIN Update V4
I didn't see this post until after I removed all four
updates...It gave the Windows log in error in safe mode
and as I clicked "ok" it went ahead and logged me in as
Administrator so I went and restored to the point before
all updates were installed so I'm not sure which one was
the culprit.
Thanks again! I am going to set a password and user name
and make a security back up disc for sure. :)

The Windows update page will only show you the installation history if you downloaded my by connecting to this page in the first place - if you downloaded the security update from another pc first then installed it, the installation history page is useless.
