Hi Ironhorse,

Do you get a message from NT Authority and is there a 60 second
countdown?

If so, you have got the blaster virus or a variant.

To stop the shutdown, you can go to Start > run > and type
shutdown -a

You have to get a tool to get rid of the worm, install the patches
from Windows Update and install a firewall, either XP's own or a
third-party one, like the free Zone Alarm from www.zonealarm.com
