Windows is so slow - help!

My laptop computer (Toshiba) has Microsoft Word and
yesterday I found that after installing McAfee firewall
(recommended by AOL), Microsoft Word is operating very,
very slowly. It takes ages to save a document. I tried
to do a disk fragment but this froze! I also applied a
spyware removal software and checked for viruses. Can
anyone offer advice?

Computer problems mentioned in the same sentence with AOL is
confirmation that AOL is inconsistent with productive computing.
Macaffee is also implicated in generating operating problems all on its
own, and coupled with AOL, it is almost impossible to solve an operating
problem without sitting in front of the subject computer. You really
need to do two things: first, review everything on AOL support about
things similar to your problem; second, for the price of AOL you can get
an alternative ISP with better performance and far, far, fewer problems.
