Windows is slow

I have reinstalled Windows XP Pro in the last day and
have downloaded update files from Microsoft to keep the
OS as current as possible.

For some reason my system slows down every so often (3
mins or so) where the hard drive accesses and I cannot do
anything. It then catches up and I can carry on.

I can only assume it is these updates because my system
does not have any other software on at the moment and it
slowed down like this on a previous installation when I
had done the same. It is a nightmare!

Open Task Manager and keep it open when that slowing happens. Also select
disk related columns (View->Select columns) to show and sort process display
with I/O Writes. That way you could find which process is doing most disk
i/o. You can then report name of that process here.
