I don't mean to be obtuse but what are you suggesting? I did a search and
couldn't find a solution.

But you aren't posting enough information. (Specs, errors, etc.)
Try watching your computer.
(If plausible), do something (watch TV, read a book, etc.) with the computer
in your line of sight. Watch to see if it does anything before it shuts
down.

Hey mate,

It couold be something to do with your power saving setting (none of that
monadong rubbish)

Check the screen saver tab in Display properties.
This can be accesed by right clicking on the desktop and selecting
properties from the menu.

hope it helps,

If it's not your power management/screen saver (see post from Hemsley above),
perhaps the power in your office is being switched off for the night. Plug an
electric clock into the same outlet that powers the PC and check its time in
the morning.

Perhaps someone there at night is turning them off. Janitors are famous
for yanking computer power cords out of the outlet so they can plug the
vacuum in.

from the wonderful said:
My computer keeps shutting down at night. It is off in the morning - any
guesses?

What's the BIOS setting for 'action after power failure'? If it's set to
'stay off' then maybe you are getting some power flicks at 2am
(something like a big motor on the same circuit coming on could do it)
... try setting it to 'return to previous state' (at least that way
you'll see a reboot message in the Xp event log).

If that isn't it, the only other thing I can think of that'll cause a
shutdown is overheat protection on the motherboard (but that shouldn't
occur at night), or a scheduled (or remote, LAN initiated) 'shutdown'
command.

Or pixies (or room mates) who object to the noise, I guess. 8>.

They should train them not too :@. They are usually to damn ignorant to
realize the problems they are causing. Remember the urban legend of the
janitor unplugging a patient's life support to use the vacuum? Although it
isn't a risk in real life because the way the hospital equipment is set up,
a computer usually has no such protection. Plus, the person could be
running Defrag, have open documents, etc.
