Windows Installer Problem!!!

Within the past several days, the Windows Installer has began to hang at a
point in the process. When setting a new restore point is required by the
software being installed, it will hang at that point and will not proceed
further. When no restore point is required, it will proceed to about 80% and
hang right there. Searching for a solution, I found several statements
relating to fouled up registry keys causing the problem. Does anyone know
which keys are involved and the corrective action? Uninstalling IE7 is where
it all began.
