Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes.

After updating the latest securitypatches I've got a
problem running setup programs that uses the Windows
Installer. It launches setup but stops after a while, then
hangs for about 15-20minutes, then continues.

One ex. is when I install Microsoft Intellimouse Drivers,
it stops when it reaches about 70-80% of the progressbar,
then hangs 15-20 minutes...and then resumes to finish.
It says the setup was succesfully finished, but the
pointer32.exe crashes randomly within 30 minutes after a
reboot.

But as said, I get the long waiting periode on any setup
based on the msiexec.exe.

Thank you

I am also having a Windows Installer problem, but it is
exactly the opposite issue. I cannot install any
application. The installer starts the setup program and
then exits without an error message or copying any
application files.

For your situation, you may want to check the specific
driver files to see if they are corrupt or uptodate.
However your post indicates that the problem occurs for
any application.

I did find in my case that I was missing a DLL file used
by the setup package. I added the file and setup
progressed, but did not complete successfully. I think I
am missing additional files, but am having trouble
determining what files are required.

I tried reinstalling/repairing the XP operating system and
even this did not solve the problem.

I will keep your post in mind as I continue to work on my
problem.
