Hello

Every time I try to either open a folder (my documents or any other
folders), or open a new browser window in IE, or open an attached item in a
mail (just to name a few); Windows installer start and is trying to install
Acrobat Reader.

Why is that and how do I disable this?

Many thanks!

Margot

Are there any corresponding Error or Warning Reports in the System or
Application logs in Event Viewer. If yes please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hello Gerry,
As requested here is the message from the Event viewer:

Computer: MARGOTDUFOUR
Description:

resource 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Startup\'
does not exist.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I'm getting this problem since yesterday.
Funny enough, I lost the "Shared" folder usually located in "My computer" or
"My documents", can't remember which. And I now have this "Documents" folder
sitting in "My computer". If I try to access the "Documents" folder, an
error message appears saying that it's not accessible, "acces denied".

Just letting you know in case this would be part of the problem.

THanks!

Margot

Have you recently used Sytem restore? Have you checked for spyware?

In Google there is a post by a Duncan who says "I simply gave the
Windows "Users" group Full Access to C:\Documents and
Settings\AllUsers\Documents\" (using Windows Explorer) and all was
well again."

If you right click on Document and Settings and select Properties,
Sharing there are setting but I am not familiar with how they work.
Post back the details and perhaps we might research the options.

Do you have a System Restore point for immediately before the problem
occured? Have you made any system changes since that time?

BTW what precise version of Adobe do you have?

Hello Gerry,

I have done a restore just now, back to 4 days ago before all this started.
No luck.
Spyware is doing fine.

I tried changing the charing properties of the Documents folder in Document
and Setting and again, Access Denied.

As I am trying to do things while writing this note, funny enough, the
Documents folder is now accessible!!!!!!

Well, talk about that!
Thanks for the help. I'll see how it behave and let you know ...

A+

Good Margot. Please keep me informed.
