There was a program downloaded on my computer a few days ago. It contained a
virus that affected my anti-virus program and my email. When I go to use the
program or delete it, I get the following message...

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you
are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not
correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assitance.

I have tried to re-install the Windows Installer, but I get the same
message. My internet service provider is threatening to shut my modem down if
I don't get it fixed. What do I need to do?

If youre running xp with SP1 only installed, you can go to downloads at
microsoft, use the scroll-bar,scroll to windows xp,locate windows installer
3.0,download and install.Then go to run,type:services.msc In msc,scroll
down to installer, double click on it,then select auto from the manual
position
its now in,also start the service, then close out.
