Chris

I have just built a new computer, I am doing a fresh
install of windows XP. I am booting straight from the CD
on startup, the startup process begins just fine. I
format the new hard drive, and install on the new
partition. Then windows starts copying files to the new
drive. When it is around 10% complete i get a message
that say this file connot be copied "file.name" and then
it ask me to skip or exit the installation. I have tried
two different things, First, as it suggest i have tried
two other xp cd's and still the problem persist. Second,
I have tried using a different hard drive. And still the
exact same thing. It doesn't always stop on the same
file but it eventually stops giving me the same message.
Any ideas? I cannot figure out what to do. Thanks in
advance.

File copying problems during installation are most often caused by
one of four issues, in order of likelihood: a defective hard drive,
defective/sub-standard RAM, a defective motherboard, or a bad CD.

Ok, i have elimanated two of these issues for sure (hard
drive and cd), but i have a question about the RAM. When
i boot my comp up the ram is being read and says that it
is ok, can my RAM still be defective even though it says
it is ok when the test runs? Thanks in adavance.

Yes, the RAM can still be bad. All the BIOS does with the RAM
during it's boot is count the amount, it doesn't really test anything.
