Windows Home OEM to Windows Pro

Hey,

I need to upgrade to Pro because the college I am going to requires
it. I recieved Home OEM with my system, so I got a Windows XP Pro, and
tried to install it as an upgrade, but the Product Codes would not
work for the upgrade option, so I am guessing that I need to do a full
install. If I do that, what would happen? Would I have two operating
systems at the same time? Or would the full install rewrite over Home
OEM? Also, I have heard that it is a good idea to uninstall Anti-Virus
Protection/Firewall programs before I do this. Is this correct?

Thanks for any help.

In order to upgrade over XP Home, you need the "Retail Upgrade Version"
of Windows XP Pro and use the XP Pro Product Key. Uninstall your
antivirus program and select the default "Upgrade" setup option and not
"New Installation". If you do not see the "Upgrade" option during setup,
you probably acquired an "OEM Version" of XP Pro that can only be
installed on a reformatted drive.
