Hi,

I originally had Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed on
my computer from Dell. However, I just recently purchased
Professional edition, and so I formatted the hard drive
using the utility included in the setup for Windows, and
proceded to install clean on a formatted hard drive
Windows XP Pro. However, strangely, upon startup, I
noticed that on loadup I got the OS Selection Screen, and
Windows Home Edition was there (as well as Pro)!

I'm not sure how this could be as the hard drive should
have been formatted... unless somehow the information is
stored somewhere else? It's weird because if I click on
Home Edition it says it can't find it... It should not be
there at all.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of it saying that?

Thanks,

Yaron

1. use the following article and search for the file Boot.ini on the root of
the C: drive:

302347 HOW TO: Search For Hidden Or System Files In Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=302347

2. I would suggest to make a copy of the Boot.ini file in case it is
incorrectly modified.

3. You might need to remove the read-only attribute for the file
(Right-click and Click Properties and clear the Read-only option) in order
to be able to save it in a later step.

4. Start a text editor (notepad.exe), and then open the Boot.ini file, which
is in
the root directory.

5. Edit the file and remove the line in the [operating systems] section to
remove the Home Edition choice. Delete any blank lines left in the
[operating systems] that may be caused by deleting the line.

6. Save and then close the file. The option to start in the old
installation is now gone.

Thanks a bunch! It worked fine :)
