Today i just received this error;
Windows File Protectio

Files that are required by windows to properly have been replayced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files

But when i put in the cd it just brings me to the main menu of the installer, strangely everything was working fine the day before and i had done a reinstallation of windows a few weeks back, Could you please clue me in on this =/

Click on start , run and then type sfc /scannow. Notice the space between sfc and /. The machine should ask for the windows cd. Insert it and when the menu comes up just close it and the system should take over.

The best thing you could do is run this command from the
Start->Run menu:

sfc /scannow

Have your WIN CD in the CD drive because it will ask for
it. The program will scan your system files and replace
illegal/unknown/unrecognized system files with authorized
files. When finished - reboot.

I ran the scan twice through but when it finishes it just closes and nothing happens, is this good or bad ?

Well i restarted my pc but now it wont even boot up !!! it wont load up using normal/last known good config settings and safe mode doesnt work either ! so i've moved to another computer, now i really need help on this !!! I'll try using a boot disk i have but if it comes to it, I might have to take the computer to a repair shop i know of

Do you know about a "Repair Install"? If you put your CD
in the drive and restart you will reach a point in the
install process where you can press R to repair the
system. You will have to go to Windows Update afterwards
to update your system files again, but your files,
settings, and programs will not be damaged. There are
two points in the install process where you are offered
repair options. Choose the second. Do not accept any
option to reformat, of course.

It is neither good nor bad. Whether or not you got an
error message durring the scan is important. Now run
Windows Update to make sure a file copied from the CD
does not need to be patched.
