I have 4 computer on my network. One is running Windows ME, two run XP Home,
and the last one the primary file and print server is running XP Pro. My
problem is that access to the shareds on the network is flaky. Sometimes
everything is fine other times user can not get access to the shares on the
XP Pro box. The only other share that is in existence on the network is one
of the XP Home computers is sharing a printer. I also only want certian
users to have access to certian shares so this means that each user needs to
log into the network with the same login and password that they use on the XP
Pro computer. How do I go about this so that the shares are stable?

Arew the PCs networked over wireless or cable?

Do you go through an Access Point or Router? If wireless

Do you go through a switch or hub if ethernet?

How is the internet connection made?

More info from you will provide a more specific solution that could just work!

The computers are networked over a wireless network. The only exception to
this is the primary server that is connected to the Acess Point/Router using
a network cable. The internet connection is made using a shared dailup
connection shared by the primary server. I have not had any problems with
this working. Basically at this point I have turned off the DHCP and routing
function of the acess point/router and have assigned the IP address to each
PC. They can see each other using ping and the IP address.
