When i fire up Windows Explorer it defaults to My Documents, showng my
personal files. Is their any way of changing it to default to a less
sensitive folder?

Right click the shortcut to Windows Explorer and select Properties. In the Target Line, enter the following text.

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,

Apply OK.

This will open WE with My Computer highlighted and all drives visible.
