I have opened Windows Explorer and found files printed in blue, for example
$hf.mig$,
$ms131uninstall_KB893803$
There are approx. 71 of the same ilk.
Any advice to what these are please?

They are microsoft update and hotfix uninstall information in case you need
to remove them. (they should be folders not files i guess thats a typo)

In addition blue font means a compressed folder.

In the Windows directory you can find a lot of "hot-fixes" downloaded and
installed by "Windows-Update". The entry's will show in blue.
