Windows Explorer Opens on Boot

I recently updated software for an HP OfficeJet 5510 PSC
All-in-One (to version 3.5), in addition to applying an
HP patch to resolve a known issue involving a file that
hung on system shutdown. The software came from HP's
website. Unfortunately, since installation I have
encountered various issues that necessitated a very
lengthy call to HP's tech support. Although it
appears most issues were resolved after several
procedures (software/driver uninstall/reinstall,
download/install new MSFT MDAC/VBSCRIPT, and,
ultimately, reinstalling the older version of the
software), they were unable to address one issue that
coincided exactly with the installation of the
newer software/driver:

On startup, Windows Explorer opens to C:\Program
Files\Common and displays the "Drivers" folder.

I have investigated (along with some help from HP) what
would appear to be the causes for this problem, but to no
avail.

Any help would be most greatly appreciated. Although it
is easy to simply close out Windows Explorer after
booting, I'd like to know what's going on, and
furthermore it's fairly annoying.
