Hi guru, whoever u r,

Not sure if this is related to the msblast virus as we
did have it but don't anymore, and we don't remember it
happening before, BUT now when we use the search option
in windows explorer, (as opposed to internet explorer),
our dialup connection box opens up. Connection with our
isp is then established, before the search options box
comes up. If we try to cancel the dialup, we get a
message saying 'one or more files missing for search
option, use setup.exe' Any ideas? I've searched FAQ but
this seems to be either an unencountered problem or there
is a simple solution in preferences/security setup/or xp
setup....
Appreciating any help at all, as this is driving us nuts.

Hi Tony,

Search Assistant will try to connect to http://sa.windows.com This is done
to check for updates to its features, tips, wording and etc. Not allowing
access can cause its own set of problems, usually a "A file that is
required........." error message.

You can stop the internet access by changing the search behavior to Classic
Search.

Disable Search Assistant (Line 15)

Old Style Search Engine On/Off (Line 49)

Or...

Use TweakUI, Explorer section to set Classic Search:
