Windows Explorer - Long waiting time to view contents of a folder

Dear All,

I have three partitions on my hard-drive for boot, program files and
data. Boot and data open fine, but the program files one is very
slow (c30sec+). I recently upgardaded the boot to Win XP from Win2k
and there wasn't a delay before.
Could anyone suggest why this might be the case and how it might be
addressed?
