windows explorer errors - kills rest of system

Windows XP Pro - windows explorer fails 30-45 seconds after system loads -same error msg each time 'will have to close': explorer.exe 5.1.2600.2096 Appver :6.0.2900.2096 modname: printui.dll & offset same each time . ignoring error message allows use of system but to no avail.once click on error msg - explorer reloads then all but wireless network icon unloaded from system tray?
Tried booting in safe mode -explorer still failed. Search option failing if try to use in time available.
Booted to dos prompt and located printdui.dll in \windows\system32
reinstalled explorer.exe & printdui.dll from original installation CD - no better result. ( patches needed?
Hijack This found hosts fille too large (included some bad urls ) so we restored the small Hosts file withonly one entry . problem still there - CWShredder removed cwsgoogle.Spybot ,Spyware Blaster AVG & Adaware all uptodate..only Avenue A detectedand blocked.Still this problem remains.... any other suggestion?
 
If the system was operating fine, and this is a recent problem, have your
tried using System Restore, and restoring from a Restore Point from a date
just prior to when the problem began?
