Windows Explorer crashing

When working in Windows Explorer the past day or so I
have been receiving the following error message:

The instruction at "<address>" referenced memory
at "<address>". The memory could not be "read".

In frustration I have downloaded 2 substitute programs
for file management and they now come up with the same
error message. I concluded this must be an OS problem.

I don't know how I can operate my system without a file
manager app. Can someone please assist me in some
fashion, remotely or otherwise so I can get this issue
resolved soon?

TIA,

-Dave

Should this be "d:\sfc /scannow"? or else why install the CD? Sorry if this
relates to the original question, but I don't have a view of that, and it
wasn't included in the above response.

Oops...found the answer myself; it does indeed (potentially) need the CD to
retrieve files...sorry for asking first and researching secondly..

Leon, Since I have already installed SP2 I am concerned that the file repair
may install older versions of files and cause other problems. I ask this
because I noticed that the Windows CD offers the option of checking for
incompatibilities, but it immediately warns that the PC is running a newer
version of Windows.

I would highly appreciate your comments!

Tom

PS - I routinely use AdAware and Spyboot (all OK) - fabulous protection.

Hi Tom,

You could slipstream your CD so that it has SP2 on it. I used
AutoStreamer, and it made the new CD no problem. I can do my weekly
SFC /SCANNOW easily.
