Dozens of people reporting very similar problems with Windows Explorer.
When you get the "it must be spyware or virus" diagnosis that has been
said hundreds of times in the last week, check this, and if you don't
find any of those then please post saying that. Thus far very very
few have said "well, yes, I did find a virus, cleaned that and it worked"
Try booting into Safe mode. Does it work there?
Try creating a new user, switch to the user. Does it work there?
Neither of these fix the problem but they may provide clues.
Hopefully Microsoft is working on this. You can escalate to them.

and give them all the details you can. There is no guarantee their
analysis will be correct, or even that it won't make things worse,
but it might work out.
