windows explorer crashes upon selecting .wmv files

whenever I select a *.wmv file in windows explorer, it crashes and closes, what causes this and how to fix it? in addition, I can't play the files with media player.

Try reinstalling media player. What version of wmp are you using? If it's ver
8 try updating to version 9.
